Stephen
Smith received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience in 1987 and his medical degree in 1990
from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Following a residency in internal
medicine, he undertook fellowship training at the National Institute for Medical
Research and Guy`s Hospital, London. This was followed by further clinical training
in intensive care medicine at the Royal Prince Alfred and Royal North Shore
Hospitals in Sydney, Australia. In 1996, Smith began working as a postdoctoral
research fellow in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Stanford
University. He joined the faculty at OHSU as assistant professor in 2000. He
is a member of the Divisions of Molecular Medicine and Pulmonary
& Critical Care Medicine and Department of Physiology & Pharmacology.
Dr. Smith trains graduate students through the Neuroscience Graduate Program
(NGP) and the Physiology
and Pharmacology Graduate Program.
